Officers from the Scarsdale Police Department were dispatched to a Woods Lane home at approximately 9:40 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 24, when burglar alarms went off from the first and second floor of a residence.
According to police, upon arrival, officers found a rear sliding glass door that had been broken into. It was later discovered that the master bedroom had been ransacked and the alarm box in the hallway of the second floor had been ripped off.
Police said that the homeowner arrived home shortly thereafter, and a police canine was called to the scene. Footprints were found in a neighboring home, and the canine followed the suspect’s footsteps through the backyard of a Forrest Lane home and out onto the street, where the dog lost the track.
At the scene of the burglary on Woods Lane, police found a small flashlight attached to a lanyard behind the property, near where the door had been broken into. Investigators said that it is believed the suspect entered and exited the home through the same rear sliding glass door.
The homeowner said that approximately $6,000 worth of jewelry was stolen, including 16 watches, several jewelry boxes and a gold necklace worth approximately $1,000. The burglary remains under investigation.
